win for the red white and green, thanks to <b>Gianni Govoni</b>, on this second
evening of the <b>14th CSI5* Vincenzo Muccioli Challenge</b>. The rider, from
Modena, was on <b>Aboyeur W</b>, a Westfaler gelding born in 1994. Govoni, who
was very successful in last year's San Patrignano CSI, took calculated risks as
he made his was around an incredibly fast clean wining round. He just edged out
the American rider Richard Spooner who was set to beat the time but knocked
down a pole on the last fence, along with Italian Champion <b>Emilio Bicocchi</b>
on <b>Olea</b> (0/0 40.50") who rode clean but could not beat Govoni's
speed. Third place went to Ducth rider <b>Albert Zoer</b> on <b>Samurai</b>
(0/0 41.27").The well attended class had 39 horses and riders divided into
four groups. The best of each group then went on to the winning round.Govoni
was quite satisfied with his win, " I am very happy, as my horse went very
well this evening after a few mistakes yesterday. Maybe it was my fault for
letting him rest too much in the last few weeks, he is older and gets
rusty". Were you worried about Spooner beating you in the last minute?
"I knew he would give it his all and that his horse was capable of
winning. He took the last fence too long and so he lost his chance at
winning". So far here at San Patrignano four out of five classes have been
won by Italians. A good omen for Kentucky? "It's still too early to say,
but I think we are doing quite well, even though, as our trainer Markus Fuchs
said, missing a horse like Seldana is quite a setback". <o:p></o:p></span></p>
