Grande chasse Mediaset, Ahlmann beats the clock
The Mediaset Grande Chasse, last class Saturday night at San Patrignano's CSI5* was a smooth victory for Christian Ahlmann. The European individual gold medalist in 2003 and three time team European Champion (in the juniors in Athens 1994, Donaueschingen 2003 and San Patrignano 2005), team bronze Olympic medalist took his Rheinlander gelding Perry Lee to victory with two clear rounds. His mount, by Pythagoras Z took fourteen fences (and two optionals)with apparent ease as well as speed (0/0 61.63").Behind the German rider were Belgian Francois Mathy Jr on Theodoor, a ten year old KWPN by Great Pleasure (0/0 63.20") and Ireland's Jessica Kuerten with the Selle Francaise mare Castle Forbes Myrtille Paulois, by Dollar du Munier and out of a mare by Grand Veneur (63.46").Fifth place went to another faultless round by Italian rider Gabriele Grassi who debuted this year at Piazza di Siena in Nations' Cup on the Irish grey mare Cruisella (65.21"), placing first among Italians in the class.Tomorrow is the last day of the CSI5*, and the first rider will take the field at 5pm for the class dedicated to young horses.
